This is our first year in the Youth League. We won't be playing League Cup fixtures. See Yellow or Red? The league is fining each player €5 for each yellow card. All players who give away stoopid cards will have to pay their own fines. Next Season: Decision to be made, do we run with an under 17 team comprising this seasons 15's and 16's (no under 16 team in schoolboys) and let this years youths go into junior football; or go with this years under 16's in with anyone who is currently under 17 in a youths league? Next Game: Innishvilla v Rockmount Saturday January 11th ko 2pm. The Big One; 1st v 2nd; we must win if we're to win the league. Latest: Januay 3rd Daly Industrial Supplies-Stihl Murphy Cup 1st Round: Innishvilla 0 - 4 Ballincollig A good convincing win for Villa with an opening goal from a frre kick from Cian O'Donovan followed up by a brace from Ronan Crowley and the usual from Rob Moore saw us ease into round 2. The Season to Date: 29 for 13 against - great strikers; good defence but a tired midfield. After a disappointing draw against Dunbar we are looking precarious on top of the league. If all the teams from Rockmount down to Midleton won their games in hand we could fall to fourth from bottom. That's not possible, of course, because they all have games to play against each other but the dropped points against Dunbar could be a killer. I've added a column for "Points Dropped". It shows that Leeside, Rockmount, tramore and Dunbar can all finish higher than us. It's the draws that are killing us.
Saturday December 26th Dunbar 4 - 4 Villa A bad day at the office. We had two starters missing, Shane O'Sullivan with mumps and Chris Carey with a hamstring and it was Stephens morning. The reworked defence worked fine but a weakened midfield tired in the second half and we give away two costly points. Gavin O'Driscoll was missed in midfield where his last two matches as defensive midfielder earned him man of the match. Goals from Rob Moore (2, one pen) Jack Walsh saw us go in at halftime with a healthy three goal advantage. An easy goal brought Dunbar back into the game after the break but Jack Walsh restored our three goal cushion with 30 minutes to go. Then we fell apart. The midfield tired and the defence could not stop Dunbar. Too often we lost posession and went into the last three minutes 3-4 ahead. When we could have played cagey, just like the Tramore game, and played around their corner flag we attempted a cross from a free that gave the ball straight back to Dunbar, They ran unopposed the length of the field and scored an undeserved equaliser. Lessons learned: you can't win without a midfield; you can't just keep booting the ball back to the other team; you have to win ugly sometimes e.g. run the ball into the corner when there's three minutes to go. Man of the Match: Shane Nolan - the energiser bunny.
Saturday December 20th Villa 2 - 0 Midleton A great professional no-nonsense win. Goals from Rob Moore after 62 minutes and Jack Walsh after 81 sealed the points. Saturday December 6th Villa 2 - 1 Tramore Goals from Rob Moore and James O'Regan saw us up at half time. A fightback from Tramore got them a goal but the defence stood firm and we revenged our September defeat. Saturday November 29th: Bandon 0 - 5 Innishvilla Crilly Cracks Bandon Resolve - Ronan Collins cracked a quickfire hat trick past Bandon; Shane O'Sullivan scored a peach and Shane Nolan continued as Mr Dependable as our forward line shot us to second place in the division and top of the scorers list. We continue to play flowing football and winless Bandon couldn't stop the midfield and forward onslaught. Man of the Match was Gavin O'Driscoll for an unbeatable display of midfield defending; Bandon just could not get past him all day. Saturday November 22nd Rockmount 2 - 2 Villa. A great display of passing football saw us go 0 - 2 up through goals from Rob Moore and Shane Nolan. And we could have been five or six up if the chances had gone our way. In the second half we got ragged and started to give backchat to the ref. They came back and we droped two points; top of the league if it wasn't for the gob. Saturday November 16th: Villa 7 - 0 Watergrasshill ko 2pm Watergrass turned up with only 9 men and we quickly put them away. Seven goals - a birthday boy hattrick from James O'Regan and singles from Shane O 'Sullivan, Shane Nolan, Jack Walsh and Rob Moore Saturday November 1st Leeside Knockraha 0 - 4 Villa Bcak on form Villa romped to a well deserved victory with a brace of goals from Shane Nolan and Jack Walsh Saturday October 25 Villa v Midleton ko 3pm Saturday October 11th Innishvilla 2 - 2 Dunbar Celtic James O'Regan was unstoppable for the first three minutes as he banged in a shock (to Dunbar) lead goal. Dunbar came back after 25 minutes and - as Barry Peelo called it - Dunbar then nudged ahead. Shane O'Sullivan took two attempts at a penalty - thanks ref - to share the spoils. We were short Aiden Davies who was working and Bryan O'Donovan who was sick. Gary Cronin was injured. Gerard Rice was suspended and had a dodgy hairdo - click her for Gerards hairdo Saturday October 4th FAI Cup 2nd Round Innishvilla 1 - 7 Cobh Ramblers. A bit of a lesson handed out to Villa. We were competitive all over the pitch but we lack a goalie. Bryan did brilliantly to stand in but goalie is a specialist position and some other players will have to step forward for the sake of the team and play between the posts. Gary Cronin had the dentist. Munster Cup Innishvilla 1 -3 Togher from Dunmanway - Crossbarry Friday October 3rd Saturday September 20th Tramore 4 - 1 Villa A stupid referee ruined this game for Villa. When Tramore tried and got away with a few dangerous tackles the game was over. Never mind we'll see how good we are with a home game and a decent ref.
The Season starts: Saturday September 13th FAI Umbro Youth Cup Round 1: Lakewood Ath 0 -2 Innishvilla 5pm We're home to Cobh Ramblers in the next round. Villa were good value for their win when goals from Cian O'Donovan and Shane Nolan booked our passage into a second round home game agaist Cobh Ramblers. Cian opened the scoring when he saw his effort from a free-kick flash into the net from 25 yards just on the half-hour. Then, Shane netted a second on 65 minutes to double our advantage. A defensive mixup gave Lakewood a glimmer of hope but it was too late.
