October 16th

From this weekend onwards, any team may be subject to spot checks by a CSL Committee member, all of whom will be attending games at random from now on.

Please advise all your team managers that any of their players must furnish their signatures and dates of birth on the official match card if requested to do so by a CSL Committee member. The CSL Committee member will obviously approach the team manager in the first instance with the request.

IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE TO BE PASSED ON TO ALL CLUBS IN YOUR LEAGUES IMMEDIATELY - PLEASE TREAT URGENTLY.
In the past few days a potentially dangerous situation has come to light regarding an 11 year old who had attended an FAI soccer camp over the summer.

This lads father was approached during the course of the camp by a person allegedly named Gavin Maguire who introduced himself as an FAI coach and claimed to be from Limerick. He spoke to the father about how much he was impressed by his sons ability and wanted to know if he would be willing to travel to Dublin for special training during the October weekend / mid term break. He claimed that this was a new initiative being set up by the FAI for promising 11 year olds.

When I heard about this situation, I checked with the FAI to see if such a course was in the pipeline and I also asked Michael Lynam to check out the situation.

There is is no such training camp arranged by the FAI nor is the alleged name of Gavin Maguire on any FAI database as a coach.

Please advise all the clubs in your various leagues as a matter of urgency, especially because of the proximity of the upcoming date, of the possibility that other parents at other camps around the country may have been approached in a similar way and may have been duped.

Darragh

August 30: Darragh Murphy has been selected to attend the Football Association of Ireland 2009-10 Regional Emerging Talent Programme.

August 2009

FAI coaching staff, headed up by Player Development Manager and Under-16 International team manager John Morling, staged a four-day training camp for 32 players at Limerick University.

The camp brought together players who attend the various Emerging Talent Regional Centres around the country into one location where they received specialist training on a range of aspects within the game, both practical and theoretical.

Now in its third year, the annual event is a useful exercise to work with an extended group of players before the Under-16 season kicks off in the next fortnight. By increasing the level of training and development in this manner, it allows these talented players to attract the attention of top professional clubs in Ireland and Europe or, alternatively, pursue their football ambitions domestically.

Amongst the many speakers to the group of players during the course were Packie Bonner (Technical Director), Wim Koevermans (High Performance Director), Philip Phelan (Physiotherapist), Terry Conroy (Player Welfare Officer) and Niall Harrison (Emerging Talent Coordinator).

The schedule culminated on Wednesday with the Irish selection, divided into two squads of 16, playing friendly matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham. The Wolves Academy team were holding a similar training camp in Limerick this week while Fulham travelled over from London for the day.

John Morling declared the workout a significant success. He said: "The purpose of the camp is to create the correct environment for the most talented players at this age group to flourish in.

"This is the only real opportunity we get during the year to stage an in-house residential camp whereby we can work closely with the players on a multitude of facets that covers tactical work and technical drills on the pitch to presentations on subjects such as nutrition, hydration and bodily work off it.

"Limerick University is an ideal location for this, containing superb accommodation as well as indoor and outdoor facilities of top-class standard. We shared the venue this week with the Irish Rugby squad."

He added: "For many of these players, this will be their last season before they go into professional football. Therefore, the advice given by Packie (Bonner) and Wim (Koevermans) to them on what options are available to them, both here and abroad, was invaluable.

"Those players that do go across the water will also have the assistance when they're over there of Terry Conroy, who was appointed last November as our first-ever UK-based Welfare officer.

"The emergence of the FAS football courses in recent years, coupled with the launch last week of the three-year full time BA in Sports and Exercise (Soccer) at the Institute of Technology (IT) Carlow, means there is a viable alternative for youngsters wishing to remain within the Irish football system.

"Each of the players' progress will be monitored by our coaching staff when they attend our Emerging Talent Regional Centres on a weekly basis throughout the season ahead, meaning there is continuity in this process."

The 2009/10 season will be the saddest so far; after a tragic accident we have lost Jake O'Donoghue

August 2009: days designated for backlogs and Cup matches are on the 2009/10 news page

August 2009: What size is a football pitch?

Since 2008, In order to standardize the size of the football pitch for A international matches, the IFAB has decided to set a fixed size of 105m long and 68m wide (115 yards by 74). This size is used by many including Camp Nou and Old Trafford. Turners Cross is 100m by 70m.

Our two pitches are 100m long. The first pitch is 60m (65 yards) wide

The average width of a Premier League pitch is 74 yards - approximately 67.7m so I propose to set the width of our second pitch at 66m (72 yards). That gives us a pitch width comparable with Newcastle, Bolton, Tottenham and West Ham.

July 2009: based on their results in the Smallie league our Under 11 team goes into Division 1 of the league. The highest entry point for any Villa team to date.

National Cup.

We have entered the premier division teams in the National Cup

May 2009:

Last season was the best the under age club has had to date. We now have two teams playing CSL Premier league matches, 14 and 15's and one of our players, Darragh Murphy, played for Ireland under 15.

For 2009/10 our aim is to keep both our under 14 and 15 teams in the Premier leagues and make our 11's, 12's and 13's more competitive by putting in place better coaching support for our managers.

Anyone new players who would like to join our club are very welcome. Contct Finbar Walsh on 087 7689 7646
